Kathrynne and Charles came in carrying something else: a genuine ease with each other and with everyone around them. They are warm people, naturally. The kind of couple that makes their guests feel relaxed just by being relaxed themselves.
They flew down from Toronto with 50 to 80 of the people closest to them, family, longtime friends, the ones who had been watching this story unfold for years. And when the day arrived, it reflected them completely: elegant, unhurried, and full of real moments.
Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres as a wedding venue: what I saw as the photographer
Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres sits on the northern coast of the Mexican Caribbean, in the area known as Costa Mujeres, roughly 20 to 30 minutes from Cancun International Airport depending on traffic. It's one of the most modern and well-designed all-inclusive resorts in the region, and it shows in every corner of the property.
What struck me most as a photographer is the variety of spaces available within a single property. This is not a venue where every wedding looks like the same backdrop. Terraces overlooking the Caribbean, lush garden settings, open-air reception areas, pool surroundings, beach access, interior spaces with dramatic architecture. You can move through multiple visual worlds in the span of a single day, which for documentary and portrait photography alike, is a genuine gift.
The property is impeccably maintained, the grounds are beautiful in both natural light and evening light, and the staff managing the wedding day operations is professional and attentive. For couples flying in from Canada or the US, that level of coordination from the venue side makes an enormous difference.
It is, without question, one of the most photogenic all-inclusive wedding venues in the Cancun and Riviera Maya area.
The best time for your ceremony at Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres
Timing your ceremony well is one of the most important decisions you'll make, and most couples don't think about it until it's too late.
In summer (approximately May through October), the sun sets later. I recommend a ceremony start time of around 5:30 PM. This aligns your ceremony and the couple portraits that follow with golden hour, the warm, low, directional light that makes every image glow and every background look like it belongs in a film.
In winter (approximately November through April), the sun sets earlier, so a ceremony start of 4:30 to 5:00 PM works best to capture that same quality of light before it disappears.
That said, timing recommendations are only part of the equation. What actually protects your day is a custom timeline built around your specific ceremony location, the season, and what matters most to you. That's something I design with every couple I work with, included as part of every collection. A well-built timeline is the difference between a day that flows and one that feels rushed.

The vendor fee at Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres: what you need to know
Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres charges a vendor fee for photographers and videographers who are not on their preferred vendor list. This is standard practice at most luxury all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, and your wedding coordinator at the hotel will walk you through it during the planning process.
My advice is the same I give to every couple I work with: budget for it from the beginning and don't let it stop you from hiring the team you actually want.
The venue is stunning. It deserves images that match it. And a photographer you genuinely connect with, who understands your vision and your story, will always be worth more than the savings of avoiding a fee. Kathrynne and Charles made that call, and it showed in every frame.
The day itself
Kathrynne and Charles married on a terrace with the Caribbean as backdrop, surrounded by the soft whites and elegant greens of a floral setup that felt timeless without feeling overdone. Clean lines, natural tones, nothing competing with the light or the landscape. It was the kind of aesthetic that photographs beautifully in both film and digital, and that holds up just as well in black and white as in color.
The ceremony was everything it needed to be: honest and unhurried. With 50 to 80 guests gathered, it had the feeling of something genuinely witnessed rather than performed. Everyone there knew them. Everyone there meant something.
And then the ceremony ended.
That moment is the one I will hold onto longest from this day. The moment right after the vows, when the officiant steps back and the world sort of pauses. For some couples it's tears. For some it's stillness. For Kathrynne and Charles, it was laughter. Pure, unguarded, full-body laughter. The kind that comes from a year of planning suddenly releasing all at once, from the realization that it worked, that it happened, that they are married. The relief of it was written all over both of them, and their guests caught it immediately. The room shifted from reverent to joyful in about three seconds.
That's the frame you can't plan for. That's what I'm always chasing.
The reception followed as an outdoor celebration, the evening air, the sound of the ocean nearby, a dinner that felt like what it was: a gathering of people who love each other, celebrating something real. Speeches that made people laugh and then immediately tear up. A dance floor that filled up faster than expected and stayed full. Moments between moments, a quiet look across the room, a hand held under the table, someone crying happy tears in the corner.
Film and digital: why I shoot both
Kathrynne and Charles's wedding was covered by a full team: myself as lead photographer, a second photographer, and a videographer, all working simultaneously to capture the complete story of the day in both film and digital.
Digital gives me speed, precision, and perfect exposure across any lighting condition. Film gives me grain, warmth, and a texture that no preset or filter can replicate. Together, the resulting gallery feels like something from another era in the best possible way, timeless, not trendy, not over-edited.
When you look at their photos in twenty years, they will not look like 2026 wedding photos. They will just look beautiful.
